‘Na Aksa Gyilak’yoo school is seeking application to fill the various teaching position as listed above.

‘Na Aksa Gyilak’ School is certified and accredited by both the BC Ministry of Education and the First Nations School Association. It is conveniently located 5KM West of Terrace, BC on HWY. 16. Our school is situated at the confluence of the Skeena and Kalum Rivers in the beautiful community of Kitsumkalum. The local Ts’msyen Territory plays a vital role in our dynamic educational environment to best serve the needs of the students and families who attend. The Ts’msyen culture will be foundational throughout our instructional program and is strongly supported by the community and its leadership.

A strong focus on increasing literacy rate for students is supported with curriculum resources such as Fountas and Pinnell levelled literacy, Reading Mastery and Read-well. Continued progress monitoring occurs with intervention programs such as six-minute solution, acadience learning all interventions are supported by support and administrative staff allowing for a collaborative effort to raising literacy.

Ts’msyen language (Sm’algyax) and culture will be integrated throughout curriculum. Cultural teaching and learning allow for a strong emphasis on core competencies in B.C curriculum. Staff through-out the years developed various projects, lessons and field trips that are representative of cultural in the region. A refined approach to integration of culture is directed by Principal and Language and Culture staff in collaboration with classroom teacher.

Professional development is well supported and occurs with either First Nation School Association, ‘Na Aksa Gyilak’yoo school and self-directed. A professional development account is established for teachers and would match or exceed what is normally available in public schools. Professional development and professional growth are reciprocal learning opportunities for both school staff and school leadership and contribute to strong learner focused environment.

Key Requirements:
• BC Teaching Certificate (TRB)
• Current Criminal Record Check
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
• Ability to use data to drive instruction
• Desire to work interdependently within a dynamic environment
• Ability to work in a culturally responsive environment
• Exceptional communication; both written and spoken and English
• Willingness to participate in community and cultural activities
