‘Na Aksa Gyilak’yoo School (NAGK) is seeking a part-time, 0.4 Physical Health Education Teacher who is
eager and keen to work in a fairly new small independent school that is evolving. NAGK is a certified and
accredited by both the BC Ministry of Education and the First Nations School Association. It is conveniently
located 5km West of Terrace, B.C. on Hwy 16. Our school is situated at the confluence of the Skeena and
Kalum Rivers in the beautiful community of Kitsumkalum. NAGK education focuses on collaboration and co-planning to effectively differentiate in a project-based, experiential learning program. The Tsimshian language (Sm’algya̱x) is foundational throughout our instructional program and is strongly supported by the
community and its leadership.
JOB SUMMARY
The PHE Teacher is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating a physical and health
educational program that empowers students, Kindergarten to Grade 12 to develop a personalized
understanding of what healthy living means. Students will gain the knowledge, skills, understanding that
they need in order to be safe, active, and healthy citizens throughout their lives. PHE teacher should
demonstrate leadership skills that motivate students to embrace exercise, set individual goals and
participate in team sports.
EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS
• BC Teacher Certification
• PHE Specialization
• Teaching Experience – minimum of 1 year, preferably in a First Nations School
• Sports and Athletic Background and Experience
• In-depth knowledge of the new BC Ed curriculum, and other educational programs
• Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
• Good problem solving and decision-making skills
• Innovative, creative, team player and resourceful
• Knowledge of public, independent and band operated schools, an asset
• Motivational and behavioural techniques
• Strong organizational and planning skills to accommodate multi-grades and diverse needs
• Experience working with First Nation children
• Knowledge of Sm’algyax and Tsimshian culture, an asset
• First Aid & CPR and Food Safe Certificates, an asset
• Patient, kind and sense of humour
• Team player, leadership and self-motivation skills
• High standards of work ethics and good role model
• Clear Criminal Record Check working with vulnerable populations.
